Management factors affecting the environmental impact of cereal-based dairy farms

چکیده
This study aimed to assess the environmental impact (cradle-to-farm gate LCA) of milk production cereal-based dairy farms in northern Italy and analyse which traits related farm management (MAN_F), lactating cows’ ration composition (DIET_F), animal responses (ANI_F) could be identified as main determinants address specific mitigation strategies. Data originated from 28 farms. The functional unit was 1 kg fat- protein-corrected (FPCM). Impact categories were global warming (GWP), acidification (AP) eutrophication (EP) potentials land occupation (LO). values analysed with a linear model test separately effects MAN_F, DIET_F ANI_F variables. One FPCM associated an average 1.10 CO2-eq 17.1 g SO2-eq (AP), 6.0 PO4-eq (EP), 1.3 m2/y Regarding GWP LO linearly decreased increasing stocking rate feed self-sufficiency (FSS), whereas minimum EP found for intermediate FSS (50% DM). DIET_F, at levels dietary inclusion cereal silages, AP decreasing crude protein (CP) content values. Among ANI_F, quadratically yield (MY), evidencing lowest MY (9100 ± 477 FPCM/cow per 305d-lactation). GWP, age first calving. These results can contribute drawing good practices farmers consultants promote more environmentally sustainable while supporting functioning farmers’ income.HIGHLIGHTSFarm Life Cycle Assessment studied.Mitigation achieved by operating on organisation, cow’s diet, responses.Good proposed better sustainability.

Feeding Management to Reduce the Environmental Impact of Dairy Farms
Probably no region of the U.S. has experienced greater attention to impact of agriculture on our environment than Florida. Dr. Jack Van Horn, retired from the University of Florida, was an early advocate of research to demonstrate how dairy production could be good stewards of the environment through improved cropping practices and nutritional management. In recent years the Chesapeake Bay has ...
متن کاملFactors Affecting Manure Output on Dairy Farms
The amount of manure produced on dairy farms can affect the financial bottom line. Labor, equipment, and facilities are needed to move and store manure, all of which have a cost. Increased output of manure can represent losses in potentially digestible nutrients (increased feed costs). Lastly, the environmental impact of dairy farming is strongly related with the quantity and composition of man...
متن کاملIdentification of the most important environmental and management factors affecting on Salmo trutta caspius Aquaculture duration
The native species of Caspian brown trout (Salmo trutta caspius, Kessler1877) is an important candidate for introducing to the aquaculture industry because of carcass quality and marketing in Iran. In introducing any species, it is necessary to complete the domestication stages. The most important advantages of domestication are controlling the costs and the biological and non-biological factor...
